I realize there are a couple of ways to go about it, but this would help eliminate a lot of forum questions.

I have a forum running for a software project with over 6000 active members. I created a specific "How To / Tutorials / FAQ" forum with read-only access to the "normal" users. This way they always have a place to go for answers from the developers, but we don't get as bogged down with redundant question/answer sessions. At the least we can simply point questions to the "How To" forum. The topics are generic enough that they will work on different versions, or they are easily updatable by the admins.

We also include a full help file in the software installation, but like most people the users don't read it.
