Normally slow posting times is due to a slow mail server.

If email notification is enabled emails will need to be sent, if yourSMTP server you are using is slow to connect to the submission of thepost will stop while the emails are sent.

Slow servers, or SQL servers that are at some distance to the webserver can also course delays. You never mentioned versions you whereusing!
