    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=17539">Rudster</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 11826<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 27&nbsp;January&nbsp;2005 at 7:51am<br /><br />Hi All<BR><BR>If anybody is interested!&nbsp; <IMG alt=Ouch src="https://forums.webwiz.net/smileys/smiley18.gif" align=middle border="0"><BR><BR>Just to let you know I have finished migrating my site to WWF.<BR><BR>I did most of the migration of my Access database by manipulating the data in Excel.&nbsp; Fiddlie, but it was easy than writing a migration tool.<BR><BR>Took me about 6 hours to migrate 1,200 users, 4 categories, 98 forums and 1,700 posts (including dev time).&nbsp; <BR><BR><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">Users </SPAN>- I had to create unique ID's using the firstname and the first letter of their surnames (previously, the key was email address).&nbsp; I had to change duplicates manually.&nbsp; Then I uploaded them using my mass upload pages <A href="http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=11848" target="_blank">http://forums.webwiz.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=11848<BR></A>to <A href="http://www.sportsregister.co.uk/members.asp" target="_blank">http://www.sportsregister.co.uk/members.asp</A><DIV><BR><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">Categories </SPAN>- Manually created<BR><BR><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">Forums </SPAN>- stored as 2 table in previous version County and Town took the counties as the forum name and concatenated the towns as the description e.g.<BR><A title="SR Forum" href="http://www.sportsregister.co.uk/forum_topics.asp?FID=9" target="_blank">http://www.sportsregister.co.uk/forum_topics.asp?FID=9</A><BR><BR><SPAN style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold">Posts </SPAN>- The posts where made up by&nbsp; amalgamating the data I already had across 4 tables (Sport, Town, County, User) and linked into the user id rather than email e.g. <A title="SR Categories" href="http://www.sportsregister.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=1497&amp;PN=1" target="_blank">http://www.sportsregister.co.uk/forum_posts.asp?TID=1497&amp;PN=1</A></DIV><DIV><BR>I then changed the mass email page to reset the passwords of all my members and email them.<BR><BR>... then HEY-PRESTO we have go-live!&nbsp; <IMG alt=Clap src="https://forums.webwiz.net/smileys/smiley32.gif" align=middle border="0"><BR><BR>UNFORTUNATELY, I am getting load of people joining the forum, but not many people are posting.&nbsp; I think this is due to the migrated posts looking a bit too uniform rather than friendly?&nbsp; <IMG alt=Cry src="https://forums.webwiz.net/smileys/smiley19.gif" align=middle border="0"><BR><BR>Oh well, early days yet ... if anybody has some suggestions/criticisms I would be grateful!<BR><BR>Cheers ...<BR><BR>JR<BR><IMG alt=T&#111;ngue src="https://forums.webwiz.net/smileys/smiley17.gif" align=middle border="0"><BR><BR><BR><BR></DIV><span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by Rudster - 27&nbsp;January&nbsp;2005 at 3:26pm</span>]]>

FOR FREE!!</P><P><IMG src="https://forums.webwiz.net/smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0"></P><P>My site has been fairly successful over the last 2 month gaining 900+ members, but it proving a pain to manage!&nbsp; I&nbsp;would very much like to migrate into the WWF as it has much better database managment tools.&nbsp; </P><P>Has anyone written any migration tools especially around the member migration accomodating encryption stuff!</P><P>Any advice would be greatly appreciated!</P><P>JR</P><P><IMG src="https://forums.webwiz.net/smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"></P>]]>
