Not all gifs are transparent. You have to convert all your avatars and logos into tranparent gifs or pngs.

But maybe I am missing the point of your question?

Hi there
 
Ive recently re-skinned my forum to co-incide with a re-design of the website.
 
I have plenty of avatars etc but I want to try make the backgrounds transparent so if the site is ever re-designed i dont have to re-create logos and avatars again.
 
It would also help as i've got alternate colours on the table in this area.
