Unless your host is running your app across a server farm (an instance of the app on each of their servers for redundancy), there's no need for it not to have it's own application pool. Indeed, most cookie based web code will fail otherwise.

That may works fine in Windows 2000 but not in Windows 2003. The main reason is that Windows 2003 is a multi-thread, and multi-process web server, whereas Windows 2000 implements a single-process server. So, each time the same web request get switched from one process to another, the session state stored in memory got lost.

I have moved that site to a single-process application pool, effectively emulating the Windows 2000 environment. Please check with them and see if they still have the problem.

However the best solution is still to implement session states using a more permanent method (such as file-based cookies or even via database).

Regards

qingdong

---
