A suspended account can not be re-activated via a activation email.

If a members account becomes suspend they can only view the board in the same way a guest can, but if they try and post messages, etc. they get a message saying their account is suspended.
 
I tried this, but the system then offers them a resend of the activation email. Is that correct, or and anomally I'm seeing?  If they can just get an activation email again, then the system itself seems to have a way for them to get around being suspended.

The problems with banning using cookies is that cookies can be removedfrom a users machine, in fact it's simpler to get round that having tosign-up again.

If you enable email activation, then you can also bann email domainsfrom signing up, also you can not sign up with the same email addressas a suspended account, this would make re-signing up much moredifficult.

yes but they can allways can log off their account and register again..
thats why when they will try to access to ANY page they will be directed to the suspended page

My site is a bar life community on line with many members, ive only had do do a few suspensions in the few years we've had the forum live.
People learn the rules/guidelines early on as other long term members are very loyal and keep an eye out for idiots who might register and try to spoil the atmosphere
 
I guess it depends on who your site is aimed at, people can always re-register but it makes it harder if you've banned that ip address and you regularly monitor the daily posts
Im running 7.9 at the moment and had to create a new user group as ticking the inactive box on the members profile failed to close the account
 
still, id never change this forum despite geeks asking me why i run web wiz opposed to others, its fan-bl00dy-tastic Wink
