CAPTCHA for guests is a good thing. I wouldn't recommend allowing Guest to post, but some people like it.

The version on this site is an alpha version, hence the aplha in the title, which means it is a pre-release test version.

I think that is a great idea borg, but personally i do not let guests posts on my forums.
 
Also i noticed at the bottom of this forum it says "version 8.0 b2 alpha 1"
When do we get a copy? lol, or is that "beta version 8 - Released 11th January 2006"

It's an idea I shall look into.

But personaly now I am used to it, it doesn't bother me.

One thing I need opinion on is that sevreal users have asked if CAPTCHA images can be used for Guest posting to prevent spam.

What do people think of this idea?

Personally I like the way MSN implements their Captcha which is a little less intrusive. Basically on a normal login you do not need captcha, thus when you tried to login with a wrong password or so, I imagine they have a counter in their db it requires captcha on the seconds. Like everything on the Internet it is a careful balance and compromise between usuabilty and security.

many places in the forum a compromise has to be made between features, ease of use, etc. and security, and usually I spend many hours trying to make the best of both worlds, but still keep the maximum security.

With Web Wiz Forums security is always paramount, which is why it has a solid reputation as one of the most secure forums.

In version 8 you can disable CAPTCHA images, but it does come with a warning that you will compromise security if you do so.

^^ borg  I understand the  importance of this CAPTCHA thing for the security of the forum....  bt yeah its true dat sometimes its kinda irritating for teh users too.... just a suggestion if ther is any way that reugular user can login without the CAPTCHA thing and if u tyr to login to the admin account ..the forum will use CAPTCHA ..well i m not sure abt the tecnicalities .. this just came in my mind .. this way security and user comfort bot can be taken care of ....
