    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=1">WebWiz-Bruce</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19232<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 11&nbsp;April&nbsp;2006 at 6:39pm<br /><br />Yes it does it's not chnaged that much.<br><br>GroupID is still used as well as the old login cookie.<br><br>The session system is used more to track users and store session data, such as logged in user codes (as it's more secure).<br><br>The other advantage of doing it like this is that you can set it to use the database to store the session data instead of an application array, this is not as good for performance but allows load balanced web servers, server farms, and web gardens to be used.<br>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=12115">wistex</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19232<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 11&nbsp;April&nbsp;2006 at 6:15pm<br /><br /><P>All I need is for the variables to be set saying that a user is logged in, and what their userID is and groupID is, etc. and I'll be fine.</P><DIV></DIV><DIV></DIV>I basically see if the logged in user ID &lt;&gt; 2 to determine if someone is logged in, and then check the logged in user's group number and if necesary userID number if I want to set specific permissions for a page.&nbsp; I then use if then statements to determine what people can see on the page, sometimes displaying different things based on whether you are logged in or not or if you are the correct group or not.<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>As long as common.asp (or its includes) still sets those variables, then I am fine.&nbsp; Otherwise I may have a lot of rewriting to do.</DIV>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=1">WebWiz-Bruce</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 19232<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 11&nbsp;April&nbsp;2006 at 5:07pm<br /><br />The forum primarily looks for cookies, and only uses the session ID appended to URL's in those rare cases where cookies fail.<br><br>This does mean that for those that can't use cookies if they navigate away from the forum they will need to log back in when they return, but as most people do have cookies and usually people stay in the forum till they decide they have enough and away for a good few hours, that this will not be an issue.<br><br>By the way the same system is in use on this forum, if you disable cookies in your browser and look at the URL when moving around the forum you will see how it works.<br><br>The reason why it was bought in was the massive amount of web masters who complained that the odd user couldn't login due to cookie issues with there browsers.<br><br>Just do a search in version 7 forum for cookies, you will see a stupid amount of posts on cookie issues, it drove me up the wall.<br>]]>
