This way smiliar way dpyers's

If I modify any asp file i put the original file in the same folder. For example :

if I change register.asp I put the original register.asp as Copy of register.asp in the same folder.

Then, I write comment lines in modifed asp files. I have got a notation for this. Some times I use :

<!--- MODIFIED BEGIN --> and <!--- MODIFIED END --> tags

and sometimes :

'***************** MODIFIED BEGIN and

'***************** MODIFIED END tags

Then, I examine version history.txt. I delete all files in the latest forum folder except changed files..

Then, I compare my Copy of ...... .asp files to remain latest forum folder files.. If any file match, rename these files. Ex : register.asp to -register.asp

Then, compare only which file include (-) prefix with my modded file.

Then, copy MODIFIED BEGIN END tags to which file include (-) prefix

Then, save which file include (-) prefix and remove (-) prefix

At last, copy latest forum folder to my server overwrite existing files.

This is easy way for modded forums. I can not explain how to :)

You also spend as much time maintaining the change log as you do writing code. I think people would also start looking for what features are impacted by specific code changes... it just gets out of hand very fast. Line numbers are mostly meaningless for people who have modified the code.

When I see a file I have modded in the change log, I just do a file compare that way my mods are listed as well as Borg's changes.
I examine version history.txt. I want to only change and modify updated files. But you write twice functions/function_common.asp (10th and 21th lines). Is this true ? Is this same file ? Our you make write error ?

And this is only suggest :

If this is not hardly for you please make advanced version history file. For example :

10. functions/function/common.asp :

line 40 change to this : bla bla bla ....

this line added to line50 : bla bla bla...

May be you knowingly do this because some security bugs explain via this way. Never mind :) I examine all changed files. I modified some parts of codes. For this reason I dont use this upgrade technic : copy and paste changed files

Edit : 26 and 18th lines forum_topics.asp I sure you write a new line every changes. Changed files not unique in your Version History.txt ok :)

Edited by superlative - 11 June 2006 at 3:10pm
