Author: WebWiz-Bruce
Subject: 20980
Posted: 18 June 2007 at 12:00pm

Yes bad coding can course this. Because you share a pool of around 20 connections to Access databases on the server with all other users, if the server is overloaded and a number of users have bad coding that don't release the connection once they have finished using it the connection pool can get used up. Once the connection pool is used up you will see this error, quite often until the application pool recycle.

To avoid this error you should look for a web host that more sparsely populate their servers, or limits the number of web sites that are in each application pool on the server, as you are much less likely to ever see this error.

Before signing up to a shared host it is worth asking them how many sites on average they place in each application pool on the server. For example our own hosting we place less than 100 sites per application pool and only 200 sites per server, but many hosts will place over 1000 sites per server all in the same application pool. It's those types of hosts you want to avoid.
