Thanks borg...but that's exactly what I DID do a bit ago, and things ran fine.
 
But now, a new member (who is supposed to get the email to activate their account) only gets that error...
 
ie what "did" work, now doesn't...and I've made NO changes to the mailserver or server either in the last 10 days....
 
might there be any other problem that someone else has found?

To prevent spammers from abusing your SMTP server as a open relay I would leave the authentication in place.

I find with MailEnable that as long as it can authenticate you against a user on the system it will allow relay.

The simplest way to do this is create a mailbox in MailEnable, then in web wiz forums in the email setup page in the admin area enter the username and password for the mailbox you have just created in MailEnable.

MailEnable should then be able to authenticate you and allow you to relay your emails to non-local addresses.

When I try to Register using a madeup account, I continue to get the same error -

An error has occured while sending an email.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_Access_send_mail_footer

Error details:-

The server rejected one or more recipient addresses. The server response was: 503 This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address. Please check your mail client settings or contact your administrator to verify that the domain or address is defined for this server.

So I logged into the server, and checked the SMTP settings. Right now, it's set to "Allow relay for authenicated user" and the autentication is set to the MailEnable integrated authenication checkbox. The only other two options are "windows authenication" or "use this name/pw combination" and two fields to enter the items.
 
WHat I wanna know is - from maybe someone who also uses MailenablePro, is what setting do I use? Am I on the right one, as that's the default choice.
 
Lastly, when I try to create a new user using a mail address that IS on that server (ie from one of my other domains) it allows me to Reg and sends out the email properly...it just wont' send out one when the domain in the email address is NOT on taht server...
 
help here guys?

You're absolutely right, boRg! I made the change to ME and it all works well now....

Oh one more question on emails - does the forum offer the opportunity of emailing me (the admin) an email when a new person joins? That way I can learn about each new member as they sign up?

This is a problem with MailEnable not with the forum software.

You have setup MailEnable to require authentication when sending to a non local email address.

I'm not sure how you have setup MailEnable but usually when you get this message it means that you need to setup a mailbox in MailEnable then in the Web Wiz Forums email setup page include the username and password for that mailbox. This way when the forum goes to send an email MailEnable can authenticate you.

Another option is to setup MailEnable to not require authentication for localhost email, you would need to check the MailEnable knowledge base on their site for more details on setting this up in MailEnable.

Okay, let's take another try at this.
 
Running w2k3/IIS6 and WWF8.0...and when I try to enable the Email Activation of Membership, I get the same error as above in the opening post for this thread.
 
Could someone help here? I need to figure out how to configure the server to allow this to happen?

Hmm...not needed. I'm already using the Access version and it's running perfectly -- except that I had to turn off all emails in Admin as that is choking the app.
 
Anyone else offer why this is happening - or what I need to do to enable the register email validation routine?

for testing, I'd upload a second copy of the forum software (Acccess version maybe), and create a different database for it (if you want to use SQL version), and use it for all future modifications/testings.

We use MailEnablePro, and I've properly set the area that controls the sending of the emails within WebWiz to be a local account/password that works.
 
That is, the setup SHOULD enable the forum to send emails, but it's not even tho it is setup to send to nonlocal addresses properly.
 
Is there a "test" area in Admin I can try to send emails from using that setup? Or....how else can I debug this?

I think the error message gives you the answer already:-

This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to anon-local e-mail address. Please check your mail client settings orcontact your administrator to verify that the domain or address isdefined for this server.

You need to have the mail server setup to send to non-local email addresses or use authentications (your username and password) when sending to non-local email addresses. Contact your mail admin for more info.
