Author: n7Epsilon
Subject: 22879
Posted: 11 March 2007 at 8:12pm

Hello,
We are currently trying to switch our WebWiz forum installation over to SQL due to slowdowns and server load caused by the Access database growing too much.

We have both MSSQL 2000 and mySQL at our disposal.

In migrating to either of them, we are facing many troubles:
1. mySQL
- After hours spent transferring database and using tools like bigdump to transfer the database, we finally got the data in. But discovered that our host does not support the myODBC 3.51 driver, only 2.5.

Is it safe to change the connection string to use 2.5, what are the implications of this ? and if there are, Can we do anything to workaround them by changing forum code ?

2. MSSQL
- We have spent many days trying to transfer Access database to MSSQL with failures.
- We do not have direct control of MSSQL (no Enterprise Manager) as this is a shared host, so we are stuck with Access Upsizing wizard as far as I know.
- Using that seems to succeed but it consistently fails with tblThread (refuses to transfer) and access doesn't say the error. Using packet sniffer I discovered it is trying to delete a procedure and server is replying with procedure doesn't exist...
- I tried with a 3rd party tool to administer and import the records of tblThread manually. It seems to succeed but with one problem.

The column Topic_ID is not correctly imported, instead it is simply incremented for each inserted record and this completely corrupts the database structure.

Trying to fix it gives me "Cannot modify field Topic_ID" from the server. This happens when I imported with structures only and no relations and with relationships too. Any fix for this ?

- Can someone tell us the optimum settings for upsize wizard to insure correct import ? A post here indicates so but following same steps gives us failure in tblThread upsize.

Waiting patiently for response,
Thank you for co-operation.

Edited by n7Epsilon - 11 March 2007 at 9:01pm
