Well the users on my site have figured out how to make a thread not appear in the active topics section!

By making a post and then deleting it (it being the last post in the thread) the topic no longer shows up in the active topics section. As soon as someone posts to the topic again it then shows up. It looks like this doesn't always happen, but it is now semi-common knowledge and threads show up missing in the active topics more and more.
