Cool. I like the sound of that spam filter. I get 3-400 a day and even using Mailwasher and Spampal mail just ain't how it used to be. Cry

Back to the topic in hand, the compact/repair worked a treat so we're back for now (until Pipex go down again, their status page says the problem is still outstanding).

Yes properly best to email the site with any questions.

Just installed a new primary and backup mail server within the last 3 weeks which includes a great new webmail service which can even sync your events and contacts with Outlook on your own PC.

You can also configure SPAM filters for your mail boxes through the webmail service, and disable greylisting if you don't like it. Although I'm finding that greylisting does stop of 97% of SPAM while real email still get through. It's so nice each morning not to have to sit and wait for 300 spam emails to download.

Cheers for that Bruce, I'll give it compact/repair when I get in tonight.
 
We're having to use the db for sessions as the host server kept dropping the sessions during testing and this was the only way we could stay logged in.
 
Access has served us well the last 5 years and this is the first time we've had such issues. FWIW, the Access .mdb file is a relational database file. A flat file is like a simple text file. Just becausethe .mdb is  a file on a disk doesn't make it flat file. Even SQL stores it's data in a single .mdf file (unless you tune it to use mulitple files) on the server's disk. It's just got a far superior engine driving it. :)
 
But yeah, I know it's not the best solution and MS SQL was the next planned upgrade, although the Webfusion offering is nowhere near what I'd like to use. I spend my working day with databases so I'd want Enterprise Manager or SQLSMS access to be able to maintain the database properly. Our webmail is also a major problem, so I was going to be contacting you about hosting at some point. Is it best to email you regarding this?

This error normally means that the database has become corrupted. Compact and repair your database should fix the problem.

However, using the database to store sessions instead of the server will degrade your performance on SQL Server and mySQL, but on Access this should never be done as Access would be unable to cope with the number of read and writes to the database to store session data.

Unless you only have a handful of users you should never use Access as a forum backend as it is a flat desktop file and not a database. At the present time seriously considering dropping support for Access in version 9 as it simply isn't up to the job.

However, will be launching hosted solutions of Web Wiz Forums version 9 for as little as £2.49 per month with mySQL and SQL Server x64 backend, for those who don't have adequate hosting from their present host.

My host (Pipex's Myserverworld.net) had a major problem over the weekend and it took out our site for the best part of two days. The trouble is, it was intermittant so people were able to get on for 10 mins then the whole site would vanish again.
 
Today, I can't get onto the forums due to an error with the sessions:
 
Server Error in Forum Application
An error has occured while writing to the database.
Please contact the forum administrator.

Support Error Code:- err_Access_getSessionData()_delete_session_data
File Name:- functions_session_data.asp

Error details:-
Microsoft JET Database Engine
The search key was not found in any record.
 
We're running v8.05 with Access backend. Any idea of the specifics of this error message? I'll be doing the usaul compact/repair etc and checking for corruption (although the db seems ok on my test rig at home). Also wondering if Pipex have somehow screwed up the access rights on the server.
