What you could do, and what I've seen done, is create the blog so it's based on topics posted in a particular forum.
 
Ie, create a Blog forum on your message board, and create a script which shows the first post from each topic within that forum.
 
I think Wistex runs something like this on http://www.caribbeanchoice.com , but uses it for articles, rather than a blog.

Hi!

I have a question about Web Wiz Forums' capabilities:  Is there a way to attach discussion board topics to other pages in my site?  I'm going to be setting up a daily blog section, and was wondering since I've already got a discussion board if there was a way to use Web Wiz to create a discussion topic for each blog entry at the bottom of the blog page?  Or will I have to find a dedicated Blog application that has topic posting built into it?

Would appreciate any creative suggestions you might have.  I really like Web Wiz and hope I can use it for this purpose.  Thanks!
