Maybe reading the instructions fully would have helped

Web address path to forum*
The web address that you would type into your web browsers address bar in order to get to the forum.
eg. http://www.mywebsite.com/forum

I missed out the word forum.

Yes the # should be there.

Make sure that the link to your web site in the admin area is the correct link. If you update to version 9 this is handled better and also includes a test button to send an email to yourself to check that the email settings and link to your forum is correct.

With Email confirmations, the link sent is (my website) /forum_posts.asp?TID=28&PID=65#65

This just leads to a 'Page cannot be found'. I'm not sure that the # should be there ?
