I would not recommend that you disabled this item as the forum already identifies most major search engines and so disabled sessions for them.

Without sessions enabled for Guest if cookies are not enabled on their system they will not have the SID query string to track them, they will also have difficulty using items such as seaching without being able to track them.

What does this do - I set to off and can't see any difference in my forum behavour
 
Guest Sessions:
If this is disabled it could help with Search Engine Indexing, but will mean that Guests will not be able to use many tools and features within the forum.
