I asked the web host to restore the database and he emailed me that he had<br>2. I deleted all of version 7 out of the forum directory.<br>3. I uploaded the Database Upgrade Tools, went to (my forum) Database Upgrade Tools/upgrade.htm and chose to upgrade from ver. 7.<br>4. Remove all the files for your version 7 forum (accept the Access database file if using the Access version)<br>2. Run the database upgrade tool<br>3. Upload version 9<br>4. Edit the file database/database_connection.asp so that it points to your database<br><br>You do not follow the instructions at http://www.webwiz.net/WebWizForums/kb/mySQL_install.asp as these are for a new installations with a new database.<br><br>As to why you would be looking at the mySQL instructions I don't know as version 7 did not have support for mySQL. If you are using mySQL then check that you are not using version 8, as mySQL was only supported from version 8 onwards.<br>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=24829">NShel</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 24973<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 10&nbsp;December&nbsp;2007 at 4:23pm<br /><br />Well, I am reading the instructions, but I won't quibble with you that I'm getting it all wrong.<br><br>I am working from the original v.7 database which I backed up from the begining.<br><br>Here's what I did.&nbsp; Before I began the upgrade, I backed up all my ver. 7 files as well.&nbsp; Then I deleted from the server the default.asp file but did not delete the image files.&nbsp; My reasons for doing this were that I didn't see the reference to image files (and can't find it now) and my old ver. 7 uploads file took 2 days to back up it was so large.<br><br>It's still that large, but I'll set about deleting all.&nbsp; This is the right course, yes?<br><br>I apologize for my clumsiness.&nbsp; I debated where to begin with your instructions because I found the file Readmefirst.txt.&nbsp; I was unsure whether to read it first or not since it was in a subdirectory below the one simply called, readme.txt.&nbsp; <br>But first is first so...&nbsp; Obviously, I made the wrong choice.<br><br>So here goes again...<br><br><span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by NShel - 10&nbsp;December&nbsp;2007 at 4:28pm</span>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=1">WebWiz-Bruce</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 24973<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 10&nbsp;December&nbsp;2007 at 3:44pm<br /><br />STOP SLOW DOWN YOU ARE NOT READING THE INSTRUCTIONS AND ARE DOING IT ALL WRONG!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <br><br>You need to go back to your original unmodified database, if you are getting an error saying that tblSession already exists then you are either using version 8 or you have run the a version 9 database setup against this database.<br><br>Once you find your version 7 unmodified database, you then need to follow the database upgrade tool instructions. These mention that you have remove your version 7 asp and images files and to prevent users from using your forum while the database is upgraded, it also mentions that you can not use an older version (ie 7 or 8) with a database upgraded to version 9, or you will get a corrupted database.<br><br>You also need to run any database tools ONLY ONCE, running it again will make things worse! If it fails the first time, then you need to find out why, before rolling back to the original database and starting again.<br><br>There is no reason why you should get any errors at all, infact getting errors is very rare and are usually because someone has not followed the instructions.<br><span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by -boRg- - 10&nbsp;December&nbsp;2007 at 3:52pm</span>]]>
