Also try changing it, in Access, toanother version of Access, like the 2002 version, then try compactingand repairing again.

If you can't get it to compact and repair you maybe stuffed.

I would, however, recommend that you use the latest version, not justbecuase of the extra features but becuase of security holes in previousversions that could let a hacker comprimise your forum.

Help! Upgrade woes : Hey, At the risk of sounding...

    Author: SFH|DG
Subject: 7151
Posted: 11 November 2003 at 1:01am

Hey,

At the risk of sounding like a complete waste of time, Im posting this is the hope that someone may be able to help me. I am aware that my questions seem to have been answered elsewhere, its just that the solutions didnt seem to work..so here goes.

I was using 6.34 access version, everything worked well, no problems. Then decded to upgarde to 7.5 access.

After upgrade I found that the active topics didnt work, tried the LCID thing, didnt work, so I upgraded again to 7.51. Hooray, the active topics now work! Then next prob, forum wouldnt allow members with "[" or "]" in the name, so I found out how to work around that. Then next prob, I get the what seems to be common error when I post new topics.

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80040e21'

The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again.

I then retrieved my old 6.34 database meaning to transfer it again to version 7 format assuming that the databse may have become corrupted in some way. But then I noticed some posts about compact and repair both databases before and after transfer, presumably meaning the 6.34 one and the new 7 one. Then a problem arose, whilst I can compact the fresh 7 database, I cannot compact or repair the old 6.34 one, access tells me that it is in an unrecognisable format. The migration still goes ahead, and I am able to compact the new 7 database with all my migrated info. In fact when I upload it to web site, it all looks ok, then WHAM! I get this error. The only step I can see that I have missed out is the compacting of the 6.34 database, but this step seems to be impossible for me to complete.

Question is, Is this the most likely cause of my problem? If so its bad news because I cant seem to get around it.

In fact if this is the problem then I think im stuffed.

So, most likely solution would be to continue using the 6.34 version of forum, because it still works for me. So next question is, does anyone know of a skin for 6.34 that mimics the look of version 7?

I dont neccesarily need the improved functionality of 7, although it would be nice. I'd just like to make the forum look like 7, if I cant actually have 7, if you see what I mean!

Assuring you of my best intentions, and not wanting to waste peoples time, but I've been all over this forum and I cant seem to find the solution. Im not thick you know (lol) just stuck!
