    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://forums.webwiz.net/member_profile.asp?PF=1">WebWiz-Bruce</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 9418<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 02&nbsp;February&nbsp;2004 at 10:28am<br /><br />Before passwords where 160bit encrypted many people just left theredatabases open in public places and didn't follow the installinstructions to protect databases.<br><br>This lead to people complaining on a daily baises that theirforums had been hacked by hackers getting hold of usernames andpasswords.<br><br>Since passwords have been encrypted this has stopped.<br><br>Most other forums systems (including phpBB, I believe) also encryptpasswords, but each system uses a different way of doing this and soare not compatible with each other.<br><span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by -boRg-</span>]]>
