Every time I send an email using newspad it adds a  symbol before any £ sign and replaces any ' with â?T. I have checked all the language settings and they are correct for the UK and there are no extra characters in the html that I am using. Am I missing something obvious here?

Often in the case of sending emails it depends on the character encoding used in the client email software as to have it displays these types of characters.

Even emails from my bank come with strange symbols were you would expect £ signs.

On further investigation I have found out that it changes/adds these extra characters when I create a new template. My only thought at the moment is that somehow the SQL server is converting the characters. Most perplexing.

Try editing the includes/setup_options_inc.asp file and change the page encoding from UTF-8 to iso-8859-1

Any templates or text you have already saved would need to be edited and resaved under the new page encoding.
