Topic: Accepting Credit Cards online Posted: 13 January 2004 at 1:32pm |
|
I have been asked by a friend of mine to help him with setting up an
online shop, and to be able to take Credit Card payments. I am going to
be using the onlinestore from candypress.com. He was saying that
currently in his business he does not accept credit cards but would
like to offer the feature online. Does anyone know who I can use for
this purpose, has anyone had any good, bad and ugly experiences with
anyone. I am in the UK , so they would have to be able to take UK based
credit cards (VISA, Switch, Mastercard etc)
Any advice would be a bonus..

Well, you need to get 2 things to process CC's online. That's a Merchant Account, and a payment gateway.
Candypress is a good choice because it already is integrated with most of the popular payment gateways like Authorize.net etc...
Processing CC's online can get expensive, so your friend needs to be sure that he can sell enough online to cover the merchant account and payment gateway fees and still make a profit.
...as far as which to use, i guess someone in the UK would be better to tell you that one...

Thanks KC I have been looking at the services of worldpay.com I am not
sure if they are any good, but they seem reasonable enough..
I will try authorize.net as well.

i have had nothing but trouble with 2checkout.com, i would strongly suggest not to use them. Their support sucks, their website is slow, they have no post back feature, and if someone does a charge back you get stuck with paying the person back plus $30.
Right now i use regnow.com
They have anti fraud protection so you don't get stuck with charge backs, their support is the best Ive ever seen, and their payment system is very customizable, and the reports a way better than any other place Ive seen.

All my clients have nothing but good things to say about 2checkout.com. They deal exclusively shipped items. I use 2checkout.com for BullCityComics.com and have had no problems. They've answered all my questions and have even provided me with a number so that I can call them at any time.
I wouldn't recommend anyone but iBill if you are doing service related or digital goods.
Maddog, considering your idea of customer service, I'd hate to see what you consider bad service.
