Web Wiz runs fine on forums where there are 100 active users, we have many forums hosted here on our network including one for Microsoft  that have over 300 to 400 active users and never have any issues like you mention. 100 active users is relatively low.

The post I made earlier relating to the error you reported in your log files has nothing to do with the session error that you are now reporting.

Session errors like you are reporting can happen:-

1. The IIS Application pool is set to multiple worker process, make sure you are using a single worker process.

2. The IIS Application Pools is recycling to often. Check that it has enough resources and recyles once a day at a quite time on your forum, like 6am in the morning.

3. Another application is interfering with Web Wiz Forums. Place web wiz forums it's own application

4. Cookies are not being written correctly. Edit the includes/setup_options_inc.asp to change the cookie path

5. The SQL Server has incorrect time settings or is in a different time zone. A fix for SQL Server being in a different time zone will be in the next release, until then check the time settings on the web and database servers are the same.

Session errors are usually a result of incorrect server or forum setup, or modifications to the code.

That's not true. Web Wiz will run comfortably on that amount of users, and in actual fact, despite the earlier comments, I myself have not had any issues like you mention. Have you actually modified any files, or have you started with a fresh upload? I'm curious, as to why the problems have presented themselves on your forum. Can you PM me your actual forum address so I may look myself?

I completely agree with MrTWS. WWF used to run smoothly with hundreds of active users with thousands of regular users.

But this version might not be as smooth as we are used to with WWF. I have a very little suspicion about IIS7, 64 bit systems.

I am a little irregular now-a-days but my experience with wwf 9.69 tells me there had been a major change somewhere in application variables. there, something sometime isn't going smoothly.

This could also be another issue.

But after all these banters, I assure you, no one will find a better reputation in ASP forum than WWF

Thanks WebWiz-Bruce for the helpful reply. I want to trust WWF again , I've been a faithful client since version 7 but this version caused me more troubles than past upgrades. Withtout mentionning the major change in the email notifications logic that drive members nuts.

About the timeouts thing:
I've set the recycle of the pool at 6:00 AM, before your post , I tested it with NO RECYCLE, all the rest is oK: 1 work. process, 1 application for the forum.

Since it's an random problem, I don't think the cookie path or a code modz that can cause it.

Question: Does the forum with 300 active users from MS runs on SessionSQL or Application variables ?

I'll keep you posted

Thanks,

Max

Tell me how can I fix it ?

Thanks

I have to admit - I've seen this a few times since the upgrade to the latest! In fact, I find myself logged out now and then as well - on 3 different computers, Firefox and IE, so it's not the computer or browser.
I've tried to send a PM, and hit send, the PM is lost as it says "only users with...." and I start over and it sends that time. I answer a post in the forum, the post gets lost and I get the "only users with" message, I check, I'm logged in, and I try again and it posts.
This am just minutes ago, I came back from a trip to the coffee pot - side-tracked it took 20 minutes, to find I was logged out! I logged in again.
When I read messages, I find that if another post comes in anywhere, the messages I've just read now show as new unread messages.

So:
with PM or forum posts - at times I get the error message quoted above. The post is lost, I start over and it goes.
At times I get logged out, and I have to log in again.
I use the "new posts" icon and see the new posts since my last visit or login, and I go down the line and read them......... then a few minutes later, there's a new post someone makes and ALL the posts I just read suddenly show up as new/unread since last visit - bold again.

I'm not sure how many see it besides me, but I see one or all of the above daily. I do know that several folks have "complained" about the read messages suddenly appearing to them as new or unread. That issue is pretty big for us as far as folks seeing it, including myself.

All this SINCE the upgrade.

Now it's getting confusing with people jumping in about different issues.

Session are stored in the database, read/unread posts due to the amount of data are stored in application variables.

Version 9.69 has been out for about 5 months now and is running on many large forums where sessions stored in the database are used without any of the problems both of you mention.

Those that seem to have issues like you mention all seem to have one thing in common. They have modified the forum.

I have been looking at your forum billd3 and it appears that your website is wanting to use more than 300MB of memory, which is causing the application pool to recycle which would reset the application variables for read/unread posts. You also mentioned before that you use the quick login rather than the full login page. The quick login does not use cookies and so when the application recycles it would mean that you would often need to log back in.

I've been using the full login for the last 2 or 3 weeks - I've not used the quick login every since you explained the differences...........

As for the "confusion" - sorry, but I just wanted to say "hey, I see that same error too - is it related?"

Mr. Bruce,

so if we did not modified the code and the recycle worker process is every 24h and we still have persmissons and timeouts, it's a sign that we need to move to the SQL-Stored sessions ? And this should fix ?
