Ok I have updated my access database to 2003 so it can take more users at one time and is (So Micro$oft say) much quicker??
 
Still ...  At what point should I consider a switch to SQL???  As its now the latest access DB will I need to at all?? Confused

there isn't any real difference between 2002 and 2003 versions of Access.

looking at your states and trhe number of forums spacificlly i would recommend upgrading now.

this will be easier with it being smller but also your site will benefit from it as it is now.

Hmmmmmmmm thats strange....  Micro$oft have said that the latest Access DB's are supposed to be able to handle loads more concurrent users??  Thats why I updated it..... I'll see if I can dig the article out Wink
 
Thanks for the advice...  Not sure whether to wait for version 8 and then go to SQL??  Everything seems super fast at the moment though Confused - Have made sure I keep compacting and repairing the DB

you can keep the current set up and wait till V8 if you want.

but in the future before the V8 release it maybe worth doing so ..depending the size etc.


the main reason to avoid Access is every time the database is used the whole database has to be loaded into memory, where as SQL itr loads the section it needs, as Access is a flat file.

Might just have a go at upgrading soon you know... I did see a tutorial on how to transfer from one to the other didn;t I???
