How about a collapse / expand forum switch on the main header bar.

I have my forums split into 11 groups and it would be useful to be able to collapse/expand them so that only the group header is seen.

Additionally what would make this ideal is if when users do this it saves it in their cookie so when they return the same groups are collopsed or expanded.

I have seen this feature on other forums and use it quite a lot especially the big ones as it can save a lot of scrolling and also I've found out of a large list of forums i'll only generally use post in a few of them so I can collapse the groups that don't interest me.

An example can be seen on www.e-goat.co.uk each blue header bar has a double up or down arrow to collapse / expand that group.

Web Wiz Forums already has a features like this. You click on the Category/Group heading on the main index page and it displays just the forum in that Category/Group.

Also, as it uses querystrings to work you can bookmark it, so it only shows you just the forums in that category.

An example would be using the link below:-

http://forums.webwiz.net/default.asp?C=2

This shows just the forum in the Product Support Forums and collapses the rest.

Thanks Smile.

didn't realise clcicking the category group collapsed the rest. However having tried this it does not allow for more than one open group. Knew about direct links though.

I often have two / three open rather than all the groups or just one group.  Would just be on my wish list thats all to be able to selectivley have a few groups collapsed and it remember in my cookies.

Afterthought - off topic - How panicy did it get last night at your end when the servers went down???

The servers themselves didn't go down, nor did our own network. Our upstream providers had an issue with one of their main 10Gig switches which coursed an outage of around 2 minutes for some users while the traffic was re-routed. Some users would not have noticed as it was all down to where you are located as to which way your traffic is routed to our network.
