    Posted: 21 May 2009 at 3:05pm

I have a client who tried to load photos from a MAC system and received the following error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0035'

file not found

/RSSMForums/functions/functions_upload.asp,line 457

I and others have had no problem uploading photos but I'm doing it from a PC and get slightly different screens and proceedures than he does. He tried it several times with the same results. I've notice others trying to load photos and not complete them so I wonder if they have had the same problem but just didn't report it.

Here is the proceedure he used:

Okay.... step by step, this is what I'm doing....

1. Type a short reply in the "Post Reply" box.
2. Click on the "Insert Image" icon. That brings up a floating window called "Image Properties."
3. Click on the "Choose File" button in the lower left side of the Image Properties window.
4. Browse the photos on my hard drive. The photo I've chosen is a 68KB jpg, 400X267 pixels, file named "Indian-4347_opt.jpg".
5. Click the "Upload" button.
6. Click OK in the "Please be patient...." dialog.
7. Both the Image Properties dialog and the "Please be patient..." dialog are immediately replaced with the "Microsoft VBScript Runtime..." error message.

The first time I tried it this morning, I saw a bunch of what appeared to be sample file names in the Image Properties "Path/uploads... File Name:" box. I had never heard of/seen any of those before, so I assumed they were resident on your server. Then I got the Microsoft error message. The next time (and every time after that) that I tried to upload a photo, those other names were not listed in the File Name box.

The last time I tried (just a few minutes ago), I waited 2 minutes before clicking the OK button for "Please be patient...." Nothing ever appeared in the File Name box, and I got the error message as soon as I clicked on OK.

There should be no issues with uploading images from a MAC, however you should make sure you are running the latest version as some changes have been made to the upload system, including a progress bar if using AspUpload so you can see how far the image/file upload has gone.

Well, I'm running v. 9.56a which according to the "Check for Updates" it's the latest version. I'm using the AspSimpleUpload tool.

Seems strange that no one else is having this issue except a fellow with a MAC. The files size is well below the 200K limit and the 10MB limit. He was able to connect through the Image URL.

You have no clue on the VB error message by chance?

What browser is your member using?

You could ask them to try an alternative?

Eg if they use Safari they could try Firefox, or vice verser

There should be no issue with Firefox, or Safari on the MAC, both have been well tested and know of numerous users who use MAC's to upload to web wiz forums.

The line number which is giving an error message should have nothing on it which suggests a corrupted or edited file, try reuploading the file again.

Also maybe look at a different upload component. ASPSimpleUpload is not a good upload component and it could be down to ASPSimpleUpload that MAC users have the issues. I would suggest using Persists AspUpload as it is by far the best.

consider safari has indeed some strange caching issues (often ignores expire headers or submits old cookies, displayes a cached page though it should have been generated dynamically)

maybe ask the guy to clear the browser's cache, delete all cookies for the respective site, close all browser windows and start from scratch - that often helps also with failed logins.
christian

btw: just to have that added - a similar issue happened to me one time even with IE and MSDN login

Not that it helps but I'm running a mac using Firefox and Camino. I've not had any problems yet.

in the majority of cases when this had to be noticed the user ran OS X 10.4.x safari 2 on a PPC mac.
not that it helps either ;-) christian
