Topic: Archiving and another feathers request Posted: 15 November 2011 at 8:03am |

it is necessary that forum Admin or moderator can label old topics as ARCHIVED and instead of currently manually move topic one by one, multiple choice and label them. and also it is good idea that in Admin area they can batch label old topics to ARCHIVED.
I want to those ARCHIVED topics removed from active Forum and displayed in archive portion of forum for search engine and users. this ARCHIVED topics can displayed in a table that show their ORIGIN in front of them. admin must be able to undo Archive label if he decide and reactivate ARCHIVED topics. (correct batch archiving possible mistakes). in origin forums there must be a link to enable users to see archived topics belongs to those forums.
Admin can choose this options in that case: 1. close them totally and don't allow users to reply 2. users can reply but they receive warning that inform them topic is too old and replying is only for necessary cases. 3.admin can select this option: batch delete ARCHIVED topics or multiple choose them for deleting.
I know currently Admin can lock, delete, hide and move topics one by one. but multiple labeling is more Admins Friendly! In this case admin can archive Worthless topics and keep Valuable ones more Available and keep forums clean much easier.

You can already Batch Move or Batch Lock Topics in the admin area to another forum based on the forum and the date the topic was last posted in.

yes we can batch move topics currently but labeling as email services such as gmail is much easier! there is no corresponding archive link in forums. so we must create subforum manually for each ones.
automating of ordinary repetitive tasks is part of developing process. keep managing easy as possible.

Web Wiz Forums can easily manage over 5 million posts so archiving is not needed, hence why there are no plans top add archiving tools.

that's really too huge but sometimes quality of topics is more important.
pining topics is YES or NO choice and not usable for everyday topics. currently topic sorting is based on: Topics, Topic Starter, Rating, Replies, Views, Last Post. I hope achieve sorting based of their (Rating + newish) score or something new to keep valuable topics up for us but don't miss newer than 3 week ones for example.
rating must be improved if it's technically possible. it must be calculated from direct user and admin ratings and other factors (replies, views, ...) and decreased by inactivity. if forum software can not calculate rating and sort every time what about periodically calculation and sorting by admin?
rating must be In sight. and users Should be forced or encouraged to rate topics. negative rate must recorded from moderator or users. multiple rating without opening of topics must be available for admin(give star to multiple topics then apply) so valuable topics stayed more above without pining.
