    Posted: 01 March 2006 at 6:21pm
Is there a Gallery script in existance that does not use pop-ups and has security features?  I have spent months looking and it seems every single one uses popups in its design or is missing some other key feature I need.

Any help would be appreciated.  I've evaluated hundreds of scripts by now and am getting very frustrated.

Thanks.

If you want something specific, you either need to do it yourself or pay someone to do it, if you have looked at hundreds of scripts and not found one that fits your needs, chances are there isn't one out there.

I've been playing around with something called JAlbum for letting users upload their own galleries. Has decent but limited security - folder based.
The big feature for me is that it's client side and handles the image reduction automatically - no morr 5 megapixel pics in the galleries. Easy to template as well.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.

JAlbum looks neat, but is not what I need.  I need something that members of my website can use to upload pictures to my website, create their own albums, contribute to existing albums, and allow an administrator to add/edit/delete/approve submitted pictures.  It also has to integrate into an ASP page and not be too hard at swap out their login system and replace it with WWF's login system (most of the time that's actually pretty easy to do... I've done it half a dozen times already with other scripts).

I'd write my own except that I am not sure how to make it secure so that only pictures are uploaded.  Its probably simple, but I haven't researched that yet.

Unless a script appears out of the blue that does what I need, I'll probably write my own.  But I already have so many projects going that it would be a long time before I would get to it.  That's why I was hoping to find a good solution even if we had to pay for it.

Might be a little heavy for what you are trying to do, but community server has some great gallery features.

I checked out the communityserver.org and it looks interesting.  Perhaps when I start a new website, I might consider that one.

The website I need the photo gallery for, however, uses WWF as its login (for the entire website) and has many other scripts and custom programming integrated in.  I'm not looking to replace those anytime soon, just build onto it.

I did a couple of community server sites two or three years ago. Good app but definately overkill. It was one of the .net proof-of-concept apps and had a lot esoteric code to demonstrate .net capabilities than is actually needed to perform the app functions.

Community server stores all images on the db and requires that you/your web host remap .jpg, .gif, etc. handling for your site in iis. Over the years, periodic server/iis issues have caused that metadata to get lost/corrupted, If community server starts throwing red X's instead of images, the iis mapping needs to be redone.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.
