I have a peculiar bug on my forum that happens every once in a while:

On the forum section index display, the author name ("Topic Starter") is not displayed correctly. Instead of displaying the user who started the thread, it displays the username of another user who has posted somewhere in the thread. Deleting the post of the incorrectly displayed user fixes the problem.

I've only had 3 reported instances so far (although I suspect more unreported instances). But I wasn't sure what the problem was.

Using version 8.01, Access

This maybe a case of Access not able to cope with the traffic your forum is getting as Access is a desktop flat file only capable of handling small forusm with a handful of users per day.

If you see this problem again, with 8.03, click the admin icon for that topic and hit the submit button it will reset the stats for that topic including post starter and last poster.

Thanks! That seems to have fixed it.

I've also had other strange things happen recently such as entire sections disappearing (but fixed when stats are rescynched). It'll be interesting to see how large the database can get (if it can reach the 2GB limit) before it totally dies out. (currently at 680 MB).

WOW 680Mb, I wouldn't recommend using an an Access database above 10Mb for a forum due to the high number of users and high number of hits it gets.

Access is a flat office desktop file so it's like storing your data in a slightly complex text file which needs to be loaded into the web servers memory every time it is accessed. Add to that you only get 20 connections shared with all sites on that server to all the access databases, it's not really up to the job.

You should look at using a Database Management System like mySQL or SQL Server as both are servers rather than flat files so are able to handle many 1000's of users and millions of posts.

mySQL and SQL Server 2005 Express are both free and would work much better than Access.

If you want to stay using Access then you should backup the database everyday as it's easy for Access to become corrupted and you may not be able to recover it.
