Topic: Bad Word filter Posted: 19 June 2008 at 3:16pm |
The bad word filter thinks the place Sc**thorpe is rather naughty and replaces a couple of letters. Unfortunately, as some of our staff live/work here, it gets used quite a lot.
I’ve tried adding a space prior to the offending four letter word in the Bad Word list and also adding Sc**thorpe to be replace with Sc**thorpe (full word), but without any success.
Anyone know of a way around this without removing the four letter word from the Bad Word list?

Is scum really that badder word?
I suppose it depends on the context, if you are cleaning the scum off the bottom of your car then there isn't a problem with it.
I would just remove the word from the bad word list.

I think it's Scun-thorpe not Scum-thorpe, hence the problem with the word filter. *edit* ignore the link - word filters filtered it

With a word like that in the name of your town, maybe a name change for the town ought to be in order.

Yes it' the UN that's repace with **.
I could remove the word from the list, as I can't imagine any of our staff typing it, however the bad word patern matching within other words still exists.

May look at improving the bad word filer in future versions by using regular expressions.
These were not originally used due to NT 4 ane early Win2k OS's not having them by default, but things have moved on since then and regular expressions are now used in other parts of Web Wiz Forums without an issue.

Thanks Bruce, I'll remove the offending word from the bad word list for the time being.
