Allan I've just looked at your site, it looks good but you haven't compressed any of your images so the file sizes are very large using allot of bandwidth.

Like your t3.jpg image at the top, is 145.44 KB, you should try and keep all images on your pages to below 20KB at the most.

Also the text on your page is as an image which is 83KB in size, this is not only using allot of bandwidth with the image file size being large, but also as an image search engine won't be able to index your text. You would be better changing this to normal text and using CSS to get the style you require.

The web site optimisation site at:-

http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/wso.php?url=http://www.mostlyhaunted.org/

Shows your home page to be over 350KB in size!!! which for those uses with a 56k dial up modem would take over 1 minute for the page to load!!!

You should try and get the size of your pages down to 30KB to 50KB in size at the most including all your images.

This will not only reduce the bandwidth your site uses, but also those users on dial up modems don't really want to wait over a minute for your page to load, so you should attract more visitors.

Absolutely agreed.

Your "Contact Us" sliced image is 32KB which is crazy for such a small .gif image. I did a quick image job on it and have it down to 3KB which is a massive reduction on just that image.

Reduced File Size Version

3KB

If you need some help on reducing images, let us know. Also, Geekforum.com has a great forum (running WWG) for graphics help as well.

I also took a look at your header images on your forum. Your forum banner image alone is 137KB plus the banner image below it. I took both together as 1 image and have it reduced to 25KB for both images.

Click Here to view the file (so as not to break the width of this post).

Hope this helps you out some.

You have changed your site again, it's now over 500KB in size!!!

That has to be one of the largest file sizes I have ever seen for a page, even with a 700Kb connection the page took over 30 seconds to load.

Those with dial up connections will be waiting over 3 minuets for your page to load. I can't see anyone waiting that long.

Most people won't want to wait that long for a page to load and will move onto the next site.

To compress images try compressing them as both JPEG and GIF and see which sizes ends up smaller.

Software like Macromedia Fireworks shows you previews in different formats and their file sizes which you can vary the compression amount on so you can get a good balance between quality and file size.

Yep -- I sent him a PM reply with some basic information on that including just using Ifranview if he didn't have Fireworks or Photoshop. It'll be interesting to see what the size of his images are when the site comes back online.
