1. Probally best to lock the forum during the move, if you can't do this in the admin area you may need to do this by adding a redirect in your common.asp file to a page explaining your issues to your users.

2. Not sure what type of backup you can make in your control panel on 1&1, but if you contact us we should be able to find a solution.

3. Yes do support Frontpage Exetensions so you can use Frontpage 2003

4. Only the Elite and Developer Plans currently support SQL Server 2005 at the present time. As long as you can get a backup should be able to get it running without to much trouble.

If you contact us via email using the Contact Us forms or by phone to discuss this we should be able to have a look to see if your SQL Sever backup is compatible before you make the move.

UPDATE:

I was able to reset my locked-out account by editing the Author table directly in the SQL Database.  I set the login attempts for my account back to "0".  I did a few tests on the forum and I can post and delete with no problems but I can not login as admin and new users can't register.  The only problem seems to be the CAPTCHA security.  Is there anything I can do to trouble shoot this problem and fix it or shut it off?

If the CAPTCHA is not working this suggests an issue with the server holding the ASP session.

You should contact your hosting company to get them to sortout the problem on the server, but being 1&1 I doubt that would happen.

The other option, which does effect performance, is edit the file functions/functions_session_data.asp in notepad and follow the instructions in that file to enable the database to store the session data.

Just checked and it looks like I set this a while back, probably when I installed the forum.

"Const blnDatabaseHeldSessions = True"

I had a look at your forum and the issue don't appear to be problem with the CAPTCHA, the error message suggests an issue with the forum be able to track and authenticate the user.

This usually occurs if there are problems with IP addresses or the server is has issues and is recycling the application pool.

The kangaroo start stop speed at which your site is running also suggests that the application pool is recycling.

This could be because there are issues on the server and the admin has set it to continue recycle every few minutes to keep all the sites available or there is an issue with the installation of IIS on the server.

I would ask your host if they can not fix the issues that they move your site to another web server that is working correctly.

Thanks for taking them time to check it out.  I have emailed their support people again and we'll see if they'll do anything.  I am on the verge of moving my site but it's such a pain in the butt.  I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks!

Is there a way to convert my existing SQL database to MS Access?

My site is still broken with the CAPTCHA problem and I performed a test by installing a 2nd Web Wiz forum on the same site using MS Access database and it worked fine and no problems with captcha.  So I think there is some sort of problem with the SQL server cause this all started when they updated the MS SQL 2005 64.

I'd love to covert the database and any help would be much appreciated!

SQL Server 2005 32 bit and 64 bit are almost identical so this shouldn't have any effect. The difference is that the 64 bit version can handle larger amounts of memory better above 2Gig, so your host is able to cram more databases onto the server.

If you are still looking for hosting then the Web Wiz Host hosting with SQL Server is very fast, just look at www.speakerplans.com/forum it has over 60 active users most of the time and it flies along. We have also just put another server online, to keep the severs as sparsely populated as possible, so if you sign up today you would be on a new Quad-Core server, with just 2 others sites on it!!

We have also just put on a new Corporate Hardware Firewall with improved throughput to speed things up some more and keep everything safe from malicious attack as well as upgrading our network to 1Gbps and providing two 1Gbps network connections from each server.

Moving your site shouldn't be to much of an issue we can setup the forum for you and help move the database, you would just need to upload your websites files.
