I also noticed that Norten doesnt do a good job of getting all the virus's.

Im going to try PC-cillin and see if that works any better.

I got the virus on my computer the other day. It looked like I got rid of the virus. My hosting company uses the the Declude Virus software for all of the email accounts that I have at my domain name. The declude virus software didn't start blocking the W32/Mydoom.A@mm virus until today. I am really grateful that it is finally blocking any emails with this virus from being delivered to my mail box.

Never relie on your ISP's email virus scanning, you should always have your own up-to-date virus scanner running on your computer, and make sure it's a good one.

Despite having my own virus checker, my e-mail virus scanner (at web hosting), has picked up many viruses from when I was on the Microsoft Newsgroup. As it was a seperate address I no longer use it.

Virus scanners slow down.. I just uninstalled Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional, since my PC performance was just not acceptable.

My startup time took 16 seconds LONGER! My 3D Mark score decreased with 30%! In 3D games, my framerate is 50 FPS lower! Those are all reasons why I don't use it anymore. Sure, it's safe, but if you act carefully, and don't click yes on those annoying .. pop-up's everything should be fine.

I also don't open files in e-mail attachments. If I want a file from somebody, I use an encrypted compressed folder, containing the document/file. This might slow stuff down, but it does work, since you can inmidiatly see weither or not the attachment is really personal.

Another thing, I get those really chain emails from some friends. With all of there e-mail addresses in the CC bar! That's a spam walhalla! I could actually get around 500 e-mail addresses from 1 email.. Its insane. The content in even worse. Its got a fake Microsoft mail saying your hotmail (do I use hotmail? NO!) account will be deleted if you don't forward it to at least 10 friends. Just by the design of the mail you can see this whole thing is a big joke. I always use the 'Reply-to-all' function and say some stuff.

Or those other letters, saying you're life will fail if you DONT forward this mail, or if you send it to less then 10 friends. From 10-20 you'll live happy, 150+ and you're life will be GREAT! You'll always have money enough, minibars everywhere, etc etc.

Makes me see that some human beings aren't quite as sophisticated as I thought.

Gone..

Norton does really slow down your machine and also is NOT 100% at catching viruses, which is why I hate it and never use it.

Try a different anti-virus software. I find that trend internet security is good and doesn't slow down the computer like Norton.

I've fixed the problem of 500 viruses an hour by putting my email through a mail server with virus scanning, so they are removed at the mail server.

Now my problem is that I'm getting virus scanning software sending alerts of viruses found to the senders email address.

Not only is this alert a pain in the arse as viruses these days use a random address as the senders so such alerts are useless, I'm now getting around 100 to 200 of these alerts an hour which is as annoying as the virus itself.

If you have mail server viruses scanning, please turn off the 'send alert to sender' feature.
