This is a problem with Access.

If you are using a version above 7.5 you can use the Compact and Repair feature from the admin area to do this.

If not you will have to download the database and open it in access and use the Compact and Repair tool found in the Tools menu.

bruce.

got a question about this compact and repair ..

on my site i think we are using IIS5 and when i go to compact and repair it creates the duplicate then comes up with an error saying

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

Could not find installable ISAM.

/forum/admin/compact_access_db.asp, line 124

this is on my host, have you any ideas why .. or is it because its IIS5 and not 6 .. or could have the host disabled it ?

It could be that your host are not running the latest version of MS's MDAC database drivers.

This means that you need to download the database and do the compact and repair in Access.

The Comact and Reapir feature says:
From here you can Compact and Repair the Access database used for the Forum making the database size smaller and the forum perform faster.
This feature can also repair a damaged or corrupted database.
Please note: If the 'Compact and Repair' procedure fails a backup of your database will be created ending with '-backup.mdb'.

Can anywone explane what will happen if I click on it ?

First a back up of your original database is made.
Then the database is compacted and repaired making a temp copy of the database.
The database is then overidden with the compacted and repaired temporary version.
The temp database is the deleted.

If things go wrong there will be a backup version of the database. If the online version doesn't work on the server you are on you will have to compact and repair the database the hard way by downloading the database open it in Access and use the 'Compact and Repair' toll found in the tolls menu, then reupload the database again.
