I have my site set up with individual directories for different parts of the processing, so for example, I have:
 
root/login
 
for pages concerned with the login process
 
root/database
 
when my database resides etc
 
I want to put all the RTE files in a single directory structure, but have the pages that use it outside of this directory i.e.
 
root/RTE
 
root/mytextareapage.asp
 
How can I configure RTE to enable this?

im not sure if its ok, but you may have ot use relative paths to the root folder.

im not to sure on this though.

I'm not sure if I only need to change the include file address or if I have to change all the references to pages, script etc

i would say any link to an image or path would need to be changed.

also you would need a way to know where the page is being posted to, im not sure how you are doing that part. will it post to the rte folder or a custom page?

To a custom page. I have a page showing a number of text fields from a database with an 'edit' icon which will popup a RTE page for editoring.

 
The Submit will have to return the data to the calling page for processing/refreshing prior to updating the database.
