Good morning,

I have been very happily hosted here for ages and have a quite old version of the reseller hosting plan.

I have just created a new site, that if it becomes popular could be quite CPU intensive

It is a very different weight loss calculator, it tries to do a basic but substantially accurate simulation of the body (eating, exercising, existing), showing weight loss or gain as a side effect of this simulation.

Testing at home shows that my pc can do around 30 of these simulations per second, (just wrapping a loop around the call to the simulation).

Obviously I would need a lot of visitors to be doing anything like this level of processing  and on a dedicated server this will probably not be a problem for a long time but on a shared hosting plan?

At the moment I am loathe to upgrade as it might turn out to be like a lot of my ideas, one that I think  is great but no-one else does. Smile

One visitor per hour and the problem never exists Unhappy

Do you monitor servers in such a way that you can easily say "sorry your taking up too much resource for what you are paying", so I can just wait for your email or do I need to be actively monitoring the situation.

Kind regards

Why does anyone need more than an 80x25 character only VDU?

If you are on a shared hosting plan and your application is resource intensive then this could impact on the service for other customers.

If you are aware that the application is resource intensive then it may not be appropriate to host on shared hosting.

For example automated bots looking to cause a denial-of-service will often submit post requests to websites in an attempt to overwhelm a webserver and cause an outage for all websites on the same server.

While we do have methods in place to prevent this type of attack from taking down a whole server it is not something we are able to discuss on a pubic forum for security reasons.

Could you please open a support ticket from your Client Area account? We can then investigate and test the impact of your high resource usage application.
