Topic: Does WW Forum support MSSQL Express? Posted: 26 March 2005 at 1:43pm |

My current forum is running on MSDE without problem.
Yesterday I tried to install anew copy on another machine running MS SQL 2005 Express but can't seem to make it work.
Does WW forum work on MS SQL Express? Anyone has tried with success?

I've ran it with SQL 2k5 Express.. however, I had to change code in
order to fix errors.. and there were about 20 or so error messages.
I'd also NOT recommend running SQL2005 Express until it is out of BETA state.
But, you should always give it a try...

Well now that SQL Server 2005 express is out, has anyone tested it wo see if WWF works with it?
MSDE vs SQL Server 2K5 Express
The database size limitation has been increased from 2GB to 4GB!
The 5 concurrent connections govenor has been removed!!
However, you can only use one processor now.

I would also be interested to know if Web Wiz Forums works in the 2k5
express version, and if updaing an MSDE database to 2k5 express is
simple.

I just downloaded SQL Server 2005 express and created a new install of
web wiz forums 7.96 database on it, and Web Wiz Forums ran fine on it
with no changes at all to the code.
I don't know what it would be like in a live environment, but on my test PC it flew along.
I'm very impressed with it, the only thing I don't like is that you can
not use the SQL 2000's Enterprise Manager to connect to it and the SQL
2005 Mangement Studio Express version is a bit naff and lacks allot of
tools. Just have to see if I can get hold of the full version of the
Manement Studio.
If anyone knows where I can get the full SQL 2005 Mangement Studio please let me know.

this is good to know. i played with Express all weekend.
i'm wanting to work with WWF on my desktop emulating SQL Server. One weakness is there is no "import data" function so i haven't quite yet figured out how to get my data from my host into Express on my desktop. Access db upsizing appears to be my only option right now, with possibly restoring a backup as another.
As for studio, the only D/L link i've seen is
