Anyone know how to easily draw boxes like the one above in FireWorks?  Is that a photo or a cgi?

You can do it just as easily with photoshop,

  1. Make 2 images, the front and the side
  2. Use Filter > Render and draw out a 3D box - this will be the guide
  3. Paste the 2 images you made in and use Edit > Transform > Distort and make it match the guide you made
  4. fill the top with a colour like black
  5. Add special effects like drop shadows etc.

It's really pretty easy if you just think back to any technical drawing classes (required in 7th grade for me). I made mine with 2 rectangles and just distorted the shapes slightly and used a linear fill. I added my text/logos and used distort for them as well.

If you want to do it the easy way and use Fireworks, then download the 3D Objects extension by Matthew Brown.

It was quite simple I used Fireworks.

I first created two flat rectangles, then put all the content into them, once this was done I highlighted each rectangle seperatly, including all conten,t and used the Skew tool to shrink one of the sides on each rectangle.

hate to dig up old threads but I have a template.  It could be used in commercial and noncommercial projects too.  It comes in two formats, .png. and .psd.  It also comes with a tutorial on how to place your images on a box.

You can grab it under my Free-art section on the front page at
http://www.pumpkinheadweb.com/

I even have a request forum, and how do I do that section here.
