Hi,

My knowledge of email from servers is not all that good.

I have installed WWF on Server 2003.

I am getting the following error:

< name=frmSent>There are < size=4 value=1 name=sent> email's sent out of a total of 1 < langauge="">document.frmSent.sent.value = 1;

Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3'

Server.CreateObject Failed

/admin/functions/functions_send_mail.asp, line 154

800401f3

The server that WWF is installed on is not the SMTP server... So do I need to setup some redirect so that this server will pass the mail requests onto the SMTP server??? If that makes sense...

If you have any suggestions as to where I could find a good guide on email setup on servers it would be appreciated also.

Thanks

The error means that the email component you are trying to use is not installed on the server.

You need to install one of the supported email components on the server, a list can be found on the email setup page in the admin area.

Once this is installed you also need to install an SMTP server onto your web server, one ships with IIS, or do a search on google for one.

Once this is done you then have to specify the address of your SMTP server in the admin area, if it is installed on the local web server then often 'localhost' will work.

thanks for the reply...

am not sure what happened, but I tested later on again and it worked fine.

i think there may have been an issue with selecting the component, as when I went in to check the settings for cdosys... the host was pointing to localhost... wich was strange sinice i had earlier chaned it to the smtp server and saved the details.

anyway i stuck in the smtp server again and it worked fine.

My host says that CDONTS isn't supported as Microsoft have dropped their support for it, but that CDO (which replaced it some years ago) is.

Will WWF work with CDO. It isn't listed on my admin page, but mine is an old version (I am trying to update but I can't get the download to work

Thanks Michael it works

Unfortunately I've just had an email from my host  (see below). Does this mean I'll have to modify something, and if so what?

Effective, Tuesday, May 26, 2004, all web applications that reference the SMTP server will be required to use "localhost" as their SMTP host.

Web applications that relay mail directly through "mail.yourdomain.com" will not be able to send out emails and the referencing pages will display an error.

In the email setup page in the admin area, set the email component to CDOSYS and enter 'localhost' as the outgoing SMTP server.

Hopefully, if I'm reading the response from your web host correctly, that should work.
