If you sit on the New Post/Reply or Quick Reply form for exactly 10 minutes, the "Error connecting to server" message will appear at the bottom left of the form.  If you then click the Preview button, it goes away.

The session timeout on my site is 20 minutes.  Why would this message appear after only 10 minutes?

Thinking about this further...isn't the whole point of this "keep alive" code to make sure the user's session isn't lost, even if they take a really long time to post?  Like 5, 10, 15, 20 or even 30 minutes?  I even tried it here, and after 20 minutes, I get the Error connecting message. Again, I thought the point of this code was to avoid the Session Timeout from happening.

Sounds like your IP must be changing every 10 to 20 minutes which would cause the association to your forum session to be dropped.

This does not happen when I'm on your site. So I don't think the IP is changing. But if it is, your site is somehow handling it better than mine.

If it is only happening on your forum then it sounds like the issue is caused by the application pool for your website recycling every 10 minutes. You should contact the server admin to have the issue resolved.

My app pool is set to recycle only once per day.

There maybe reasons for the app pool to recycle sooner:-

1. There are problems with the server
2. You have set memory limits on the app pool which cause it to recycle
3. You have set multiple worker threads for the app pool
4. Rapid Fail Protection is enabled on the app pool causing it to recycle
5. You have another application running on the same site/app pool which uses session abandon
