Topic: File Upload components Posted: 24 December 2006 at 1:39pm |
I've just been configuring my test forum on my home server. I don't have the money or usage to justify purchasing anything like ASPUpload so went to look for one of the free offerings suggested on the Upload admin page. Unfortunately all the free offerings are now unavailable!!
Would it be a possibility for v9 to have an upload script built in to WWF? I have a free script I use on my Photo Album. It works well and you can configure it in ASP to be as secure as you like. Just a thought really. For my live system I should be ok as the host has ASPUpload, but not every host has it and it also means my test/dev system won't be exactly the same as the live one, which isn't desirable.

If your host offers ASPUpload, then why not create a second install of your application on their server in a different directory for testing purposes.

Are you hosting on your own dedicated server? If not then even buying an upload component would not serve you. The host themself have to have it ready for you. If you got your own server then that's another story.

Because it's far easier and quicker to use the server that's sat by my feet. Also my old host didn't support ASPUpload and in the search for a new host, I rejected a couple as they didn't offer it either, so there will be people out there for which a free upload script is the prefered option.

Thanks Mikey, I'm still sleepy here...
MrMellie,
I too, had a hard time finding a component free of charge. After extensive search I found a great one (for free). I will ask Borg if he could modify the links on the admin control panel for different components sites, so that it takes you to the ones available for free (well at least for one of them).
The one I have is Dundas ASPUpload. It's an excuteable file that does not require any advanced installation... you just excute it on your machine, and that's it... go to the forum admin area, set the forum to use dundas aspupload. Let me know if you're interested and I'll zip/upload it to you so you can download/extract and use it.

They select 5 people from each team at work, and I happened to eb one this year
