Fixing a corrupt database

I am getting the following error when trying to access my forums.

/cgi-bin/forum/forum/active_users.inc, line 196

After searching these forums it appears that my problem is that the database has become corrupted because of the show active users feature (which I can disable in v7)

The fix is to open it in access and then perform a "compact and repair" procedure but when I try to open it in access 2000 it says that the database is an unrecognized format.  Am I doing this right?  I know nothing about access.

In the meantime I am trying to get a restore on the database from my webhosts backup.  If I just replace the current database with a good one from before it became corrupted everything should just go back to the way it was right?

Your best bet maybe to get an old backup before it became corrupted otherwise it vould be that it is so corrupted that you can not open the database to compact and repair it.

It would probally be better if you left the active users feature off in the Access version.

Just out of interest, and idea of the size of your database file ?

My database is 32 Mb.

I was able to get a restore from my webhost, which works.

Now I am trying to upgrade to v7 to avoid the problem in the future.  I am getting a line 609 error however.

One of the users recommended compacting the database before converting it.  But my database still cannot be opened in access (the good one, not the one that crashed/became corrupt).  This sounds bad to me...

I really want to get v7 going but I dont want to lose all my users.  Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, access tells me that the "database is an unrecognized format".

But it is the same database I have in use.

Make sure that you are using access XP to open the database in.
