Does anyone out here have any experience/knowledge of AS/400. I may be starting a new division of my company offering offsite backup services due to a recent alignment with an IBM programmer. I'm interested in talking with people who have successfully integrated a backup scheme from AS400 to IIS via FTP.

good idea but the last AS400 pro i met was few years ago.. if i can get a hold of him, i will see if he can be of any help!!

The old AS400 line evolved into iSeries (or eSeries) servers a couple of years back. They added a lot of internet capability, retired a few languages and now support some newer ones.

I had looked at them in 2001 or 2002 and really liked what I saw. Looked like a real contented as an internet server - websphere, weblogic, and apache support IIRC. At the time, IBM was hot to trot to make them play nice with everyone. Don't know if they continued with that strategy though.
If they're networked in with your servers, you can probably use one of their network back up utilities instead of ftp.

Lead me not into temptation... I know the short cut, follow me.
