I've been digging through the forums this morning and couldn't find a topic on this subject.

Anyone looked or developed a way to not allow linking to images or files uploaded in the forums?

I have some users who think my forum is a great place to store their images and file and then link them on other forums and websites.

Thanks,
Chris

There is nothing on the forum to modify to make that possible.
To do it, you can use .htaccess (if your hosting on a linux server)... by placing it in the root directory of your website... of course, you have to know how to use .htaccess.
not sure about the windows method of hot-link prevention but I've done it before through plesk CP.

Well, I did a bit more research today and there are some options.

If your web hosting provider offers ASPImage you can use it to check for the file and display it instead of showing the full URL to the image. During this process you can also check the HTTP REFFER and if it's not your domain you can re-direct them to a no-leaching image.

All I have to do is modify the code when it stores the Image URL in the post to be different. And then have another ASP page that does the check and displays the right image.

More digging and reading tonight. But I'm planning on getting this working.

The link would appear link this.
