Topic: WebWizForums 9.x Posted: 29 December 2006 at 4:09pm |
Hi, I have a couple of questions.
What is the ETC of 9.x?
Is there or will there be an option for registered users to beta test?
Thanks
Kevin

The answer to that is up there with 'How long is a piece of string?'.
Maybe looking in the development sticky post might give you a clue.

Excellent, question I second that! What color is this piece of string? What knots can you tie with it? Is the architecture similar to the previous version or will it kill a modded v8.05? What new functionality can we look forward to? etc etc etc...

If you have a look at the last few posts in the Web Wiz Forums Development sticky post in this forum you will get most of your answers and a few screen shoots.
Hoping to have a demo version of this site to get feedback on the new interface in the next few weeks.
Version 8 was about improving the performance and security of the forum engine, so the front end stayed much the same. Version 9 is concentrating more on improving the interface and making it more function but without losing performance.
The new interface includes items such as drop down menus for options relating to posts, topics, members who have posted, etc.
There is a new status bar at the top which includes a the bread crumb trail and the link buttons at the top have also been moved to this. Some of the link buttons such as the Search now open a quick search drop down box when you move the mouse over the link, the same also happens with the Calender link which shows a small version of the present months calender, using AJAX to get the data so it doesn't effect the performance of the page loading, or create unnecessary bandwidth.
New features included in the new interface include a drop down search box to search within topics, which is useful for multiple pages posts and you just want to find a particular post.
A number of people have asked that the drop down links used to link to multiple pages be changed to links, (eg. 1..10,11,12,13,14...50) this has now been done, but as the drop down is also useful to quickly jump to a page this has also been kept, but have managed to do this and keep the look clean.
Buttons with text on them are being replaced with buttons that use CSS to place text over the top of them. This is so the forum can be translated using the language files without having to edit any of the images or buttons and to also reduce bandwidth.
There are a number of other new features and enhancements but these will been seen in due course.

Borg, are we going to be able to download a BETA version of the forum when you do the above?
