Check the following is set up and correct:-

Name of the SQL Server
Database name set up by you on the server
Empty Database set up by you on the SQL Server

Check also that you have entered the correct details in the file 'database_connection.asp' found in the 'database' directory.

You need to contact your hosting company and get the details from them to connect to your SQL Server database.

The follow the install instructions that come with the software on how to setup the forum. It's only 8 steps and once read all will become clear.

I've also just noticed that you mention mySQL in the subject line yet you say you have downloaded the SQL Server version.

mySQL and SQL Server are two completely different databases, make sure you have downloaded the correct version to work with the database you are using.
