Hello,

I know few people have discussed this issue before but I'm not sure if a good working solution has ever been found.

Many users in my forum system (WebWiz 8.05) find themselves logged out if they quit the forum and others find they are logged out if they leave their computer logged on to the internet for a long period.

What can cause these problems if for most people cookies can exist?

Thank you,
Noy

They need to select to be auto logged in when they return, this will then set a cookie on their system.

However, if they login from a  different computer any cookies set on another machine will no-longer be valid.

Thank you borg, but I am speaking about a situation in which they select the auto log in option and not necessarily log in from different places...any idea what can cause all these problems except that?

thanks

It sounds like a session problem on your server. If you turn on database sessions and the problem goes away, then you'll need to contact your host about it. Try a search on sessions, there's already several topics about it.

Are those sessions also responsible for displaying who is online as active users? because I have also noticed weird problems regarding a very low number of logged on users at certain times or the ability of the logged on users number to change from 1 to 14 in a single refresh for example (i.e. unstable). Many users are complaining about this as well and all is quite new since I have replaced host 5 days ago...

Yes this is certainly starting to sound like a server issue.

This type of data is kept in the server memory, if the servers application pool recycles then all this data is lost.

You should contact your web host about this.
