They would interfere with each other in regards to settings etc. Your forum statistics would be incorrect with it showing incorrect posts, last post, etc.

It would mess up all your settings in version 8 as well.

Once you reset all teh settings you maybe OK, but quite a few people have reported it doesn't work for them.

Actually, I've been successful with a minimum of problems.  What I did was:

  • I uploaded the forum code to a new directory (forumv9)
  • In the v8 directory, I went to the css_styles directory and created a directory off of that called 'default'.  I copied the default_style.css and printer_style.css files from the css_styles directory into the new directory.
It pretty much works.  There's just a few things to keep in mind (with regards to v8 settings):
  • If you changed the path to your forum images (for your skin), it's been reset back to forum_images.
  • Flash is turned on (not a problem, but I turned it off)
  • The spacer in the breadcrumbs is changed to '>'.  (That may be normal, but on my v8, it was a ':' that I may have specified, I don't recall)
  • The title image (at the top) is changed to a webwiz image (i had made a different one)
  • If you have a registered version, the regcode is turned off and you get ads again.  (NOTE: this went away when I upgraded my registration to v9)
I've got a group testing the v9 and working on a skin for it.  both are working fine.  In v9, the last topic changed isn't updated unless the author did it in v9, but that's OK, soon enough I'll move everybody to v9.
