Can't login via direct access using Member API

Hi,
 
I have used the Member API to automate the login for my users using my current website on to my WebWiz forum.
 
I also have users in my forum who are not users in my current website - I manually create these users when they are required (Suits our business requirements and only small scale, so this is the way we want it). eg These users are in the forum tblAuthor table, but not in my websites database, which is fine and they way we want it to work.
 
The non-website users sign in directly via the forum login page (eg www.company.com/forum). This works fine.
 
When the website users sign in via my websites login page and choose to go to the forum (via a link in my websites header), this works fine and they are logged in correctly to the forum.
 
But when the website users sign in via the forum login page (eg www.company.com/forum), this is where the problem lies. The users are constantly receiving the following error...
 
The Username or Password entered is incorrect.
Please try again.
 
I have one website user (thankfully my user), who is able to login directly into the forum and via my website. No idea how this happened but it shows that it is possible.
 
Any ideas on how to fix up my website users so that they can login both via my website and also directly via the forum?

It is not possible to mix login types. If you have the existing member API enabled then you can no-longer use the forums login system but instead use your website login system.

Thanks for your prompt reply. As I mentioned though I have an account that is on both my website and my forum, and it can access the forum directly through the forum page sign in. So it looks like it is possible somehow. Do you have any idea how that would have occurred (just so that I can repeat the process for the users I want to)? Thanks. Smile

It can work but is rather hit and miss so isn't recommended as things like passwords and email addresses can go out of sync with your own login system.

Your users would also need to login the first time through your own login pages so that the session variables are created so when the user then navigates to the forum an account is created for them using the data set in from your own login system.

Instead what I would recommend doing is to fully integrate Web Wiz Forums with your own login system, by entering the login, registration, and logout URL's. This way if the user clicks the login button in the forum they are taken to your sites login page.

If you are clever and use the HTTP_REFERRER in your own login system you should also be able to detect they have come from the forum to your login page and then redirect them back to the forum once they login.
