Topic: VPS specs requirement for WWF9+SQL Server? Posted: 03 February 2010 at 5:01pm |
|
Hello, I intend to host my WWF on a VPS. My forum has about 2000 users, 50.000 posts and 50-60 users online at a time. My question is, can i run my forum on a vps with the specs as follow:
Windows Server 2008 SQL Server Express 2008 512MB RAM
I know that 512MB is kind of small memory, but due to my budget, i can only afford that. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hi Aladinn Please contact sales to discuss your actual requirements As a matter of course Web Wiz use Windows Server 2008 anyway and you would get a dedicated 800MB application memory pool as well

Thanks MrTWS, Personally, I know that the best place to host WWF is on Web Wiz's Server. The problem is I'm not the person who decide to choose the hosting provider. So, I hope somebody who has experience with hosting WWF on a VPS, can give me some ideas/advice.

I have to say - sad as it may sound - that I'm still learning things too Read this topic and then also consider (or at least who is in charge of what you want to do) consider that if you want to host a forum software then if you use Web Wiz software (which you do) then it seems logical to use the hosting company that wrote the software too I can only say that I'm glad that I use Web Wiz as our provider and that if all hosts were as good as this one, I'd be hard pressed to make a decision

512MB of RAM for Windows 2008, IIS7, and SQL Server, no chance. You
would use that much RAM just booting the server with those installed.
You would need to look at minimum of 1.5 to 2Gig of RAM for the
requirements you list.
Also watch what VPS you are looking at. Virtuozzo should be avoided as
it's naff as it more like shared web host as in you get a container on
a shared OS, with shared memory, etc. and other users can affect your
VPS and you are restricted in what you can do.
Look for a VPS based on Hyper-V where you get your own OS installed on
your own virtual harddrive, with your own memory allocation and can
install what you want on the OS.
